    To support parents during the COVID-19 pandemic, Smart Buddies is hosting a series of coding webinars held by leading educators. This Smart Buddies coding at home program has been adapted from our school program which is aligned with national curricula for students aged 7-11 including the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics, as well as, ISTE standards.

    In this series of 20-minute webinars parents are introduced to the Smart Buddies program and students are provided with coding instruction and projects. After completion of each webinar students will have projects or worksheets for review with parents.

    Getting Started
    Parents information session: In this first webinar parents and students will be introduced to the core concept of coding and how to use the free Smart Buddies app to learn how to code.

    Coding 101
    Basic coding concepts: Students are taught the basics building blocks of coding using the Smart Buddies app tutorial in 10 simple steps. A printable worksheet can be downloaded for review with parents.

    Shape Up
    Navigate basic shapes: Instruction is given on how to use household items to create basic shapes to be used in this coding challenge. Students will learn coding concepts such as loops and as well as basic concepts of geometry. Show and tell for the parents when complete.

    Find a Hot Dog
    In this project students are shown how to set up a maze with household items and then create a code to navigate those objects: Students learn new concepts such as conditionals and the coding of sound and lights. Show and tell for the parents.
